$100 Million?! Kirk Cousins Free Agency Deal Worth It for Falcons?

The Atlanta Falcons may have to pay up if they want Kirk Cousins to sign with the team.
In this story:

The Atlanta Falcons are gearing up for free agency next week, and Kirk Cousins is definitely on their radar.

Cousins, 36, is one of the top free agents on the open market, but how much will he warrant from other teams?

"No need to overthink this one, as Cousins is going to cash in once again, despite being just 4½ months removed from a torn right Achilles," ESPN writes. "He was playing outstanding football at the time of his injury and is the best free agent quarterback available in a thin market and in a league with a bunch of teams desperate for an upgrade. If you told me that Cousins winds up signing a two-year, $100 million fully guaranteed contract, I would not be stunned."

Cousins is fresh off a three-year, $90 million contract, and there's a good chance this is going to be his last big deal in the NFL, so he wants every penny possible. But is he worth $100 million over the next two seasons?

There's an argument both for and against, but if they were to sign this prospective deal with Cousins, they would take up nearly all of their cap space. The Falcons still have needs beyond the quarterback that may propel them to acquire lesser talent at other positions in order to obtain Cousins.

Trade Rumors: Chargers' Mack to Falcons?

But quarterback is the biggest need for the Falcons, and they desperately need an upgrade, so if Cousins works out, it would be worth every cent of the $100 million they would hypothetically pay.

NFL free agency officially begins Wednesday at 4 p.m. ET.
