What was once looking to be a promising season has turned into a nightmare for the Atlanta Falcons, as the 48-17 loss to the New Orleans Saints served as their curtain call to another losing record and potentially coach Arthur Smith's tenure in Flowery Branch.

Per a FOX Sports' Jay Glazer report, Smith is set to meet with Falcons' owner Arthur Blank following the embarrassing loss that closed out a disappointing season.

"Arthur Smith has a meeting with Arthur Blank also. His future [is] uncertain with the Falcons," Glazer said live on FOX.

After a 7-10 season for the Falcons, Smith has joined a growing list of coaches around the league who are awaiting to see the fate of their employment on what many consider the gloomiest day on the NFL calendar "Black Monday."

Other coaches who are reportedly on the hot seat include the New England Patriots' Bill Belichick and Washington Commanders' Ron Rivera, both of whom are also set for meetings with their respective ownership, according to Glazer.

Despite having three top-10 picks on the roster, all of whom were selected by general manager Terry Fontenot and Smith, the Falcons let a 2-0 start slip away into their sixth-straight losing season as they dropped 10 of their next 15 games.

At the center of the Falcons' troubles was once again instability under center at quarterback. Desmond Ridder and Taylor Heinicke got their turns as the starting quarterback, with neither seeming able to right the sinking ship.

But the quarterback wasn't the only issue, as many could point to the criticisms of Smith's play-calling as another issue that held the Falcons back from fulfilling their preseason expectation of making the postseason for the first time since 2017.

Yet, no matter who gets blamed for the Falcons' "late season collapse," one thing is clear: change is certain. Whether that change includes a new coach or quarterback will be determined in the coming days.
