Falcons' Bijan Robinson vs. Lions' Jahmyr Gibbs: 'Completely Different' Players, Says Arthur Smith
Sunday will be a battle of the running backs in Detroit, and while both headlining names are talented, they bring different skillsets to the table.
When the Atlanta Falcons travel to take on the Detroit Lions at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Bijan Robinson and Jahmyr Gibbs will be the offensive storylines. Both put up incredible numbers in college, and they are making immediate impacts on their respective teams during their first NFL season.
Falcons head coach Arthur Smith recently noted the difference between the two dynamic talents with both being effective in their respective roles.
“They’re built completely different," Smith said. "Gibbs is a fast, speed guy. The run schemes are completely different. They way they run, you can call it zone, but everybody has their own little nuances of zones. When he gets on the perimeter, he’s got speed. That’s what he ate up a lot of yards at Alabama doing. That’s what I’m saying. They don’t run routes the same, but they’re both great players.”
Through two NFL games, Robinson has put up more impressive numbers than Gibbs, but make no mistake: the Lions running back has the potential for a strong season. So far, Robinson has put up 180 rushing yards on 29 carries, and Gibbs has accounted for 59 yards on 14 carries.
Both backs have also been utilized in the passing game with Robinson and Gibbs putting up 75 and 57 yards in that category, respectively.
Sunday's game between the Falcons and Lions can be seen on FOX at 1 p.m.
