BREAKING: Falcons Say No to Bill Belichick, Hire Rams' Raheem Morris as Head Coach
The Atlanta Falcons have finally found their head coach.
According to NFL Network insider Tom Pelissero, the Falcons are hiring Raheem Morris as the franchise's next head coach.
CBS Sports reporter Jonathan Jones said that Morris "killed his interview" with the Falcons, and while he had future meetings scheduled with other teams, Atlanta didn't want him to leave without an agreement.
Morris, 47, is very familiar with the Falcons organization, as he served as the team's interim coach after the firing of Dan Quinn in 2020. He went 4-7 in his brief tenure in Atlanta, but the team did play noticeably better under him, at least for a while.
Morris also held a variety of titles, most notably assistant head coach after joining the Falcons in 2015. He worked his way up from a position coach to defensive coordinator in 2020, making him the natural choice to take over on an interim basis.
Falcons Schedule Second Interview With Morris
That wasn't Morris' first time as a head coach, though, as he previously led the Tampa Bay Buccaneers from 2009 to 2011. His best season came in 2010, when he nearly guided the Bucs to the playoffs with a 10-6 record.
The Falcons' search likely means that Bill Belichick will not coach in the NFL in any capacity for the first time since 1974.
