Should Falcons Give Bill Belichick Full Control? '100 Percent,' Gronk Says
The Atlanta Falcons' pursuit of former New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick looked to be nearly a done deal a few days ago, but now it more resembles a game of Hot and Cold.
Currently, the rumors connecting the two parties have cooled off substantially. According to a report by Bill Simmons, a big reason for those rumors subsiding is the hesitation in the front office, with some worrying that Belichick would essentially take over personnel decisions like he did in New England.
"Basically Arthur Blank wants to hire Bill Belichick, and all the front office people in Atlanta don’t want to hire Belichick because it’s like any big company — sport franchises are like microcosms of all big companies,” Simmons said on his podcast. “The people that run the franchise, they just want to keep their jobs, they’re in job preservation mode."
On the other hand, former Patriots star Rob Gronkowski believes that's a sacrifice the Falcons would have to make if they really want to hire Belichick.
"I would 100 percent hand it over to coach Belichick," Gronkowski said on the show Up and Adams. "He has a proven record of being able to handle it and he handled it very well for however long he was in New England - what was it, 20+ years in New England. He knows how to do it, he's got experience, so hand it over to him, he's going to change the program around."
Of all of Belichick's former stars in New England, Gronkowski has probably been the one who has advocated the most for him to land in Atlanta. The future Hall of Fame tight end suggested that the Falcons were "coming in hot" for Belichick during Wild Card Weekend, and later on spoke on why they're a good fit for the legendary coach.

Admittedly, Belichick's record with personnel wasn't great over his final years in New England, especially when it comes to the draft. While that is a genuine concern, perhaps a fresh start with a new team could help him get back on track in that regard.
