Can the Atlanta Falcons Bounce Back After Bye Week?
After a promising start to this season, the Atlanta Falcons have seemingly taken a turn for the worse following the team’s sixth loss of the year.
“We’re gonna fight,” Falcons defensive end Calais Campbell said. “When it’s all said and done, I believe in this team.”
Following seven games, Atlanta was the No. 1 team in the NFC South, but the wind has seemingly fallen out from beneath the Falcons’ wings now that the team is on a three-game losing streak and third in the division.
Each week that Atlanta struggles, the chatter from fans has grown louder as they question whether or not head coach Arthur Smith’s job should be on the line.
Smith has faced criticism for how his offense hasn’t fed highly touted skill position players such as Bijan Robinson and Kyle Pitts, players the Falcons already invested top 10 draft picks in.
Entering the bye week, Atlanta has rediscovered its identity in order for it to get back to playing winning football.
If it’s any consolation, the Falcons haven’t been getting blown out during this losing streak. The team has lost by 10 total points in the past three losses.
Multiple one-score losses indicate that Atlanta is just a play or two away from being viewed as a legitimate threat rather than a scrappy, up-and-coming team.
Getting over the hump may be easier said than done, though, because of one major question mark. Who is the Falcons starting quarterback?
Both Taylor Heinicke and Desmond Ridder have struggled this season when given opportunities to lead the offense.
Establishing who the team’s No. 1 quarterback going forward is could pay dividends late in the season as Atlanta attempts to earn a playoff spot.
