Chiefs' Patrick Mahomes QB Theory: 'Definite Truth,' Says Falcons' Calais Campbell
A small dose of kindness can go a long way in the NFL, especially with defensive linemen.
In the Netflix series "Quarterback," Kansas City Chiefs signal-caller Patrick Mahomes revealed an interesting theory: defensive linemen go a little easier on the nicer quaterbacks. As it turns out, the two-time Super Bowl champion is correct.
When asked about Mahomes' theory on Tuesday, Atlanta Falcons defensive lineman Calais Campbell revealed that being kind to opposing defenders does indeed benefit quarterbacks.
"That's very true. He let the cat out of the bag now, though," Campbell said. "Be nice because you don't want to get hit. But there is definite truth to that."
However, not all players adhere to this theory, as Campbell called out New England Patriots quarterback Mac Jones for crossing the line with him.
"Mac Jones actually, he was kind of disrespectful," Campbell said. I'm like, 'Hold on, man.' (It was) just trash talk to the highest level. It was like, 'You don't trash talk me.'"
Interestingly, during a Week 3 matchup between the Baltimore Ravens and the Patriots last season, Campbell was the one who hit Jones on a play that led to the signal-caller leaving the game with a high ankle sprain.
Luckily for Jones, the Falcons aren't scheduled to face the Patriots this season. However, this incident should send a message to opposing quarterbacks that Campbell is the wrong defender to tick off, and showing kindness is the best route to take with the six-time Pro Bowl defensive lineman.
