Falcons RB Caleb Huntley Injury Update for Camp

The Atlanta Falcons will be without running back Caleb Huntley at the start of training camp.

Despite optimism from both his coaches and representatives, Atlanta Falcons running back Caleb Huntley will miss at least the start of training camp.

The Falcons announced Thursday that Huntley, 24, will begin camp on the active/physically unable to perform list; he remains a part of the 90-man roster and can be activated at any time.

Huntley enjoyed a breakthrough 2022 campaign before suffering a torn Achilles in Week 15, rushing for 366 yards and a touchdown on 76 carries across 12 games.

Undrafted out of Ball State in 2021, Huntley spent his rookie season on Atlanta's practice squad before getting - and capitalizing on - his opportunity last year.

Entering this fall, the 5-10, 229-pound Huntley is expected to battle for a roster spot in Atlanta's deep running backs room, which is headlined by first-round rookie Bijan Robinson, 1,000-yard rusher Tyler Allgeier and veteran weapon Cordarrelle Patterson.

As such, training camp will be crucial for Huntley in his attempt to fight his way onto the field - and he should be back sooner than later.

Falcons coach Arthur Smith said during OTAs that Huntley was trending in the right direction, and the expectation then was that he'd be good to go during camp. However, Smith also stressed that there was no rush to get Huntley back, and his long-term health was the biggest priority.

And ultimately, while Huntley may not be fully ready to roll when Atlanta starts practicing on July 27, he should still see plenty of action during the preseason and have more than enough time to make a statement this fall.
