Cowboys 'Calling' Falcons to Trade for Kyle Pitts?
The Atlanta Falcons lost their first game of the season this past week, and there is now speculation that star tight end Kyle Pitts could get traded to the Dallas Cowboys.
Pitts was drafted No. 4 overall by the Falcons back in 2021 at the young age of 20. Many believed the freakishly athletic tight end had Hall of Fame potential at the time thanks to his size and speed as a 6-6 unicorn who could run a 4.4-second forty-yard dash.
His speed continues to be a talking point, with Atlanta head coach Arthur Smith still being caught off guard despite years of seeing him in action.
“I think Kyle is one of the most deceptively fast guys you’ll ever watch run,” Smith said. “You can micro-manage that – our mentality is we can all do better. If you get an opportunity – I think sometimes when you watch Kyle, he’s deceptively fast. It’s just the way he runs. It’s what makes him kind of unique.”
After eclipsing a thousand yards receiving in his rookie season, the expectation was that the speedster was on par with becoming the next Travis Kelce at just 21 years old. Unfortunately, injuries and usage issues following the team’s transition from former MVP pocket passer Matt Ryan to a run-centered offense have made his role less defined as of late.
Last week, Pitts led the team with nine targets but finished with just 41 yards to show for them. Pitts has failed to get the momentum rolling thus far in his career, only having a single 100-yard receiving game on his NFL resume, and with backup Jonnu Smith looking comfortable, some believed he might be up for grabs, but not so fast!
NFL Network reporter Jane Slater dug into the rumors and has dispelled them, at least for now.
“The Cowboys are always looking to bolster their offense, so when I heard a show say Dallas should call Atlanta to see if Kyle Pitts is available, I checked into it. A source with the Falcons’ answer when I asked ‘LOL. No way.’” Slater tweeted.
Although Pitts might not be on the trade block right now, if his talents continue to be hidden in the Falcons’ offense, expect other shark-like general managers, such as Jerry Jones of the Cowboys, to smell blood in the water and attempt to lure him away from Atlanta.
