Former President Donald Trump Arrest: Impact on Falcons Game?
The Atlanta Falcons are set to host the Pittsburgh Steelers at 7:30 p.m. EST on Thursday night, wrapping up the preseason inside Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
But just under four miles away, at the Fulton County Jail, there's another notable event - Donald Trump, the 45th President of the United States, announced earlier this afternoon that he'll be turning himself in at the same time.
Trump, 77, was given until Friday at noon EST to voluntarily surrender amidst charges in Georgia's 2020 election subversion case.
According to CNN, Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis is accusing Trump and several others of undertaking a "criminal enterprise" centered around overturning election results. The billionaire is currently facing 13 charges.
Trump has already agreed to a $200,000 bond, and authorities shared that he'll be fingerprinted and required to take a mugshot. Willis proposed Oct. 23 as the trial date, but that's yet to be finalized.
Nonetheless, it's certainly a large attraction just down the road from the site of Atlanta's final preseason contest and may force those attending to take alternative routes if needed.
As for the on-field product, Thursday night's affair is the last live-game opportunity for several players to make their claim for a roster spot, as teams around the league have to go from 90 players to 53 by Tuesday at 4 p.m. EST.
So, by all accounts, it's shaping up to be quite the active Thursday in Atlanta.
