BREAKING: Falcons Have Top-30 Visit with Florida QB Anthony Richardson
The Atlanta Falcons have seemingly committed to Desmond Ridder as their quarterback for next season after signing veteran backup Taylor Heinicke.
However, the Falcons continue to dabble their toes in the quarterback market, be it legitimate interest or merely due diligence.
According to NFL Network, the Falcons will have a top-30 pre-draft visit with star Florida quarterback Anthony Richardson in April.
Other teams scheduled to have Richardson in for visits include the Carolina Panthers (No. 1 overall pick), Indianapolis Colts (No. 4), Las Vegas Raiders (No. 7) and Tennessee Titans (No. 11).
Largely rated as either the draft's third or fourth best signal caller behind only Alabama's Bryce Young, Ohio State's C.J. Stroud and, by some, Kentucky's Will Levis, Richardson is a projected top-10 selection.
The Falcons formally met with Richardson and the other top four passers at the NFL Combine, of which teams are allotted only 45 such interviews during the week.
Here's what the 6-4, 244-pound Richardson said of his meeting with Atlanta ...
"That was actually a great interview," said Richardson. "They asked me how fast I was going to run in the 40 and if I was faster than (Former Florida and current Falcons tight end) Kyle (Pitts). I had to brag on myself a little bit and told them that I’m definitely faster. If Kyle sees this, I’m sorry ... but that was a great interview.”
Richardson ran a 4.43 40-yard dash, barely beating Pitts' 4.44 ahead of the 2021 NFL Draft, in which Atlanta made him the highest-drafted tight end in league history at No. 4 overall.
Should the Falcons, who currently hold the No. 8 overall pick, draft Richardson, they'd likely have to trade up - perhaps to No. 3 overall with the Arizona Cardinals.
But for now, it's merely meetings ... though the Falcons are certainly getting to know Richardson.
