The Atlanta Falcons are getting an unexpected blast from the past.

According to the Falcons website, the team is reinstating defensive tackle Eddie Goldman from the retired list.

Goldman, 29, signed with the Falcons in July of last year and was expected to compete for a starting job. However, he shocked everyone by announcing his retirement two weeks after joining the Falcons and right before training camp.

Goldman spent the first seven seasons of his career with the Chicago Bears after being selected in the second round of the 2015 NFL Draft. A former top recruit out of Florida State, Goldman has recorded 175 total tackles, 18 tackles for loss, 21 quarterback hits, 13 sacks and two fumble recoveries in 81 games.

Should Goldman play for the Falcons this season, he'll help improve a defensive line in need of reinforcements. Grady Jarrett is expected to hold the fort down as he always has and new free agent signee David Onyemata should play a key role. The addition of Goldman and return of third-year pro Ta'Quon Graham should create a more complete defensive tackle rotation for Ryan Nielsen's unit.

The Falcons finished 31st in the league in sacks last season, and Goldman's contributions should help Atlanta rise up the leaderboard in that department.
