Falcons Interested in Signing Bucs CB Jamel Dean?
The Atlanta Falcons could use another outside cornerback to pair with former first-round draft pick A.J. Terrell.
After injuries to Terrell and other contributors in the secondary left the Falcons depleted of depth, Atlanta acquired veteran corner Rashad Fenton in a trade with the Kansas City Chiefs before the deadline.
With the Fenton move looking more like a short-term patch for a defensive back room that needed reinforcements, the Falcons could find that much-needed No. 2 cornerback in free agency. Which is what ESPN thinks Atlanta could find in Jamel Dean, who has played his first four seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Dean ranked No. 9 on ESPN's top 50 players available list for this coming offseason and was listed as an ideal fit for the Falcons.
"A 26-year-old defender who plays a premium position, Dean will have multiple options on the market," ESPN writes. "The Titans are a potential landing spot, too, but I like the idea of pairing him with A.J. Terrell in Atlanta to give the Falcons two corners with press-man ability and backfield vision in zone looks. Dean is long at 6-foot-1, can disrupt throwing windows and creates on-the-ball production. He had double-digit pass breakups in each of his first three pro seasons, with two interceptions last year."
Dean, a fourth-year defensive back formerly of Auburn, recorded 57 total tackles for the Buccaneers in 2022 with two interceptions while playing in 15 games.
