Eagles Super Bowl DT Javon Hargrave Hitting Free Agency; Falcons Interested to Sign?
The Atlanta Falcons will be looking to add pieces to their defense that will fit the potentially new scheme brought by Ryan Nielsen, the new defensive coordinator.
One of the biggest areas of improvement that will get Nielsen's attention will be the defensive line, which just so happens to be his position group. The Falcons finished second-worst in sacks last fall, leaving a lot to be desired.
The need for more sacks has many looking towards free agency as the solution. Javon Hargrave, a current defensive end for Philadelphia Eagles, was a player mentioned by Falcons Wire as someone Atlanta should target later this offseason.
"Javon Hargrave racked up a career-high 11 sacks to go along with 57 pressures this season for the Eagles," Falcons Wire said. "The 30-year-old can fit in either a 3-4 or 4-3 base defense, and while he won’t be cheap, the Falcons have enough salary cap space to afford him."
The current salary cap projection for the Falcons from OverTheCap says Atlanta will have around $56 million to spend. But that number doesn't account for any moves that the Falcons could take to free up even more.
Hargrave would be a nice addition to a defensive line that already has some building blocks in a place like the veteran Grady Jarrett, Ta'Quon Graham, and Lorenzo Carter.
