Falcons DT Grady Jarrett: 'We Want to Be The Best'
In reality, it's been less than seven years since the Atlanta Falcons won the NFC South.
But if you ask anybody associated with the team and it probably feels more like three decades. While a gut-wrenching Super Bowl loss to the New England Patriots plays a significant role in that, five consecutive losing seasons is also a major factor.
However, with a no clear favorite to win the division this year, Falcons players have shown no lack of confidence in their ability to take the crown.
“We’re not going out there just to lay down to nobody,” Falcons defensive tackle Grady Jarrett said on SiriusXM NFL Radio. “In my eyes, if we handle our business we’re going to be where we want to be in the end. You want to win the division, you want to get to the postseason and compete for championships and that’s what we focus on is being the best us we can be.
"As far as how everybody else go in the division, however it played out we want to be the best us we can be whoever's in the division."
Jarrett, now entering his ninth year - all with Atlanta - played a big role in that 2016 team, starting 14 games while compiling 48 tackles and three sacks in just his second career season.
Despite finishing last season 7-10, the Falcons fell just one game back from the division winning Tampa Bay Buccaneers. And now with a much-improved roster in the eyes of many, the long-awaited drought could be coming to an end this season.
