With the ink drying after Kirk Cousins signed with the Atlanta Falcons officially on Wednesday, attention will quickly turn toward his ongoing rehab from the Achilles injury he suffered last season.

After giving him a four-year, $180 million contract, the Falcons are betting that the 35-year-old can bounce back from the torn Achilles and lead them back to the postseason for the first time since 2017.

Cousins' introductory press conference on Wednesday suggests that he is already progressing toward returning to the field.

"I can take drops. I can play the quarterback position, if you will, throwing the football," Cousins said of his recovery. "I think the minute I would have to leave the pocket is where you’d say, ‘Yeah, he’s still recovering from an Achilles.’ But taking drops, making throws, that’s really no problem at this point."

Obviously, Cousins isn't 100 percent healthy, which is to be expected, considering he suffered the injury back in October. However, it is a good sign nonetheless that the Falcons' new signal-caller is now able to start practicing his dropbacks and throwing the football.

Although this revelation from Cousins about being able to throw wasn't a surprise, as before signing with the Falcons, he posted a workout video on Twitter showing him doing that.

In the meantime, Cousins will spend the next few weeks in the film room with his new teammates, trying to establish a connection with them.

"I want to study these guys and I want to do it with them," Cousins said. "I believe if we do that, we're going to like where we are as we move forward."

Prior to suffering his season-ending injury, Cousins threw for 2,331 yards, 18 touchdowns, and five interceptions in eight games for the Vikings.
