Falcons Ex Matt Ryan Reveals New Job in 'Tom Brady' Fashion

Matt Ryan is joining CBS Sports as an analyst ... but the former Atlanta Falcons quarterback isn't hanging up his cleats just yet.

Former Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan is not retiring, but he does have a plan for his future.

Ryan announced Monday that he is joining CBS Sports as an analyst, which is usually a sign that he is retiring, but the former Falcons quarterback made it clear that "this is not a retirement post."

Ryan, who turns 38 this week, was traded a little over a year ago by the Falcons to the Indianapolis Colts after 14 seasons as the franchise quarterback in Atlanta. Ryan went into the 2022 season as the Colts' starter, but he managed to win just four games in 12 starts and was benched midseason. The Colts cut Ryan earlier in the offseason and he remains a free agent ... until now.

Ryan's announcement to join CBS while not retiring is reminiscent to when Tom Brady made the decision to join Fox after he retired. A year ago, Brady signed a 10-year, $345 million contract with Fox that would kick in once he retired. Brady retired earlier this offseason, but negotiated a deal with Fox to not start until the 2024 season.

Ryan's post on social media says he will start "this season," but the wording behind that is pretty vague. He could join the studio during the bye week of whichever team he plays for ... or he could be looking to call college games that don't interfere with his schedule. Regardless of what it means for his future, it looks like Falcons fans will see a familiar face on TV very soon.
