Atlanta Falcons Ex Matt Ryan Offers to Sign with Aaron Rodgers' Jets; New York Reaction?
Future Hall of Famer Aaron Rodgers is trying to return to the New York Jets this season despite having a torn Achilles sustained in Week 1. In the meantime, observers have insisted that "New York needs a new quarterback" to pair with former No. 2 overall pick Zach Wilson, who is now the first-teamer.
Could the Jets get another former MVP in the building? It seems that might've been the idea of former Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan, who is involved in his first season calling games for CBS instead of on the field.
Ryan, according to a Jay Glazer report on Fox Sports on Sunday morning, has "reached out" to the Jets to offer his services - as has Carson Wentz. And it seems both received a "thanks, but no thanks" response.
In the case of Ryan, his interest is not a shocker, as the 2016 MVP told The Athletic this summer how he’s approaching his first season as a starting analyst rather than starting quarterback.
“I’m staying in shape. I think it is kind of, ‘You know my number. You know where I’m at,’” Ryan said. “If anything were to come up, you know, we’ll see. [CBS] is where my focus is at right now. But we’ll see how the season shakes out.”
Ryan’s fall was sudden, going from throwing nearly 4,000 yards in 2021 with the Falcons to getting his role as a starting quarterback stripped from him in 2022.
Atlanta traded Ryan to the Indianapolis Colts last year, but the results were a far cry from his glory days when he led the Falcons to the Super Bowl. Ryan started 12 games throwing 14 touchdowns and 13 interceptions for a 42.9 quarterback rating, 36.7 points lower than his peak performance.
