Falcons Beat Dolphins After 4th Quarter Defense Explosion

The Miami Dolphins fell victim to the Atlanta Falcons in each team's preseason opener.
In this story:

The Atlanta Falcons (1-0) are leaving their week in south Florida victorious after a 19-3 win against the Miami Dolphins (0-1) Friday night at Hard Rock Stadium.

The week started with chippy joint practices with the Dolphins, but the Falcons are the ones ending with the last laugh.

Despite not playing the starters, the Falcons depth had a chance to shine under the Friday night lights.

It started off slow, but running back Godwin Igwebuike got the scoring started with a touchdown in the second quarter to take a 6-0 lead.

The Atlanta defense had its backs against the wall three times in the red zone during the first half, but still refused to allow any points.

The game remained tight until the final minutes and the Falcons held a 6-3 lead late, but then Atlanta exploded with two touchdowns in 13 seconds ... a punt return from Dee Alford and an interception from cornerback Breon Borders to make it 19-3, which would ultimately be the final score.

The win gives the Falcons some momentum and peace of mind knowing that the work the team is putting in is resulting in something positive.

The Falcons will head back to Atlanta and face the Cincinnati Bengals on Friday at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
