7 Times Michael Vick Made My Day, No. 6: Vick Comes Alive Against Miami
Michael Vick was one of the most prolific players in the NFL when he first arrived.
Nobody had seen a player like him at quarterback, so it could’ve been hard to game plan against him.
Though Vick had a lot of hype surrounding him coming to the league, he had to take the rookie steps just like everybody else.
In his rookie season, Vick didn’t see much playing time due to his inexperience, and also what Chris Chandler bought to the team was more of a veteran presence.
With the Falcons in playoff contention, it only made sense to keep Chandler the starter for the season.
Sadly for him, he had been injured numerous times throughout the year.
In week 16, Chandler was hurt again for his fourth time that season, which meant it was time for Vick to shine.
Coming in at no.6 in our top 7 Michael Vick moments, we have his game against the Miami Dolphins.
How It All Started
Vick was inserted into the game during the second quarter, and from then on he gave the Dolphins defense trouble.
His scrambling left them chasing him almost every play, but they were also able to capitalize on his many mistakes.
He finished the game with three turnovers, but that didn’t stop him from bringing the Falcons back into the game in the fourth quarter.
Coming In Clutch
On a fourth and 15, Vick was rushed out of the pocket and nearly sacked, but he was able to dodge the defender and rush 23 yards for a first down.
With nine minutes left in the game, Vick scrambled out the pocket and threw a 48-yard pass to Shawn Jefferson to set them up on the Dolphins one-yard line.
A few plays later, he threw a one-yard pass to make the score 21-14
The Dolphins offense was not able to score on their next possession, which gave Vick and the Falcons a chance to tie the game.
Vick drove the offense down to the one-yard line using his legs and arm to set the Falcons up in position to score.
Just Short
They had four chances to punch the ball in, but Bob Christian was continuously denied, and the Dolphins held on to win.
It may have been a loss, but after the game the Dolphins and the NFL were out on notice about how special Vick could be.
