Atlanta Falcons Owner Arthur Blank Donates $750K to Victims of Israel Attacks
Atlanta Falcons owner Arthur Blank announced in a press release Tuesday that his foundation has issued "initial emergency grants" of $750,000 to the Barzilai Medical Center, Saroka Medical Center and United Hatzalah for treatment efforts following terrorist attacks in Israel.
"The unimaginable, distressing terrorist attacks on Israel that have resulted in death, injury and trauma for scores of people over the past few days are an attack on all of humanity, and there is no place in this world for the horrific violence we have witnessed," Blank said.
There have been over 1,600 people killed after Hamas, a Palestinian political organization, launched a surprise attack on Israel this past Saturday, marking what CBS News dubbed a "dramatic escalation in the longstanding Israeli-Palestinian conflict."
Israel fired back and has since officially declared war on Hamas.
Blank's foundation will continue working with relief organizations in the area over the coming weeks and plans to provide additional support upon identifying the places that need the most help.
Of those receiving financial assistance, Barzilai is one of two frontline hospitals, Saroka is one of the primary trauma treatment centers and United Hatzalah is a group of over 6,500 volunteer medics providing quick, life-saving care.
"We grieve for the innocent Israeli and Palestinian souls who have lost their lives, the families who have experienced incomprehensible pain, and send our strongest prayers to the thousands who continue to fight for their safety," Blank said.
Blank, who started his foundation in 1995, has donated more than $1 billion to charitable causes and works with issues both globally and locally to Atlanta.
The 81-year-old Blank concluded his release with a plea and offered his thoughts to those suffering.
"We must condemn acts of violence and stand for peace, as one life lost is one to many," Blank said. "May God protect our brothers and sisters across the world impacted by this heart wrenching tragedy."
