Nick Sirianni took the Philadelphia Eagles to the Super Bowl last season, but the NFL is a "what have you done for me lately?" league.

According to reports from ESPN, Sirianni's firing in Philadelphia is "in play," meaning he could be on the open market soon, especially if the Eagles lose to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the wild card round.

That begs the question: should the Atlanta Falcons pump the brakes on their coaching search and see if Sirianni gets canned? You can make an argument both ways.

Is Sirianni worth hiring if he is let go in Philadelphia? Absolutely. The 42-year-old has a head coaching record of 34-17 since he took over the reins in Philadelphia, and despite a late-season collapse by the Eagles, it would be foolish to say that they aren't one of the most talented teams in the NFL at this juncture.

On the other hand, what if he doesn't get fired? How eager is the front office to name Arthur Smith's successor in Atlanta? Could big names in the industry (Mike Vrabel, for instance) be grabbed up while the Falcons wait on Sirianni? It's certainly possible.

Why Falcons Shouldn't Hire Patriots Ex Belichick

If you want to wait and see what happens this weekend, that makes sense, but it would probably be a bad idea for the Falcons to wait too long for a coach who may not even be relieved of his current duties. If you wait too long, you'll get burned, and that's the last thing Atlanta needs as it tries to rejuvenate its franchise.
