Robbie Chosen Signs With Dolphins; Top Falcons WR Target Gone?
The Atlanta Falcons are currently in a position where they are attempting to see what they have in former third-round pick Desmond Ridder.
The young quarterback sat behind journeyman Marcus Mariota last season, and has now earned the opportunity to run the team in 2023. However, despite drafting running back Bijan Robinson with the No. 8 overall pick which will take pressure off of Ridder, it is fair to question whether the Falcons have given him enough offensive weapons to be his best.
Luckily for them, there is a talented pool of free agents that they could turn to to help him out. Unfortunately for them, the one that was viewed as making the most sense has signed elsewhere.
In a recent article by Bleacher Report, the best free-agent players for every single team were identified and for the Falcons it was Robbie Chosen (formerly known as Anderson).
"At some point, the Falcons will have to give Desmond Ridder more to work with. Robbie Chosen isn't the threat he once was, but he still has enough juice to threaten defenses vertically," Bleacher Report writes.
A threat that the Falcons will need to look elsewhere for, as it was reported early Monday that Chosen had signed with the Miami Dolphins practice squad. Chosen spent the offseason and training camp with the Dolphins.
Taking a flier on the 30-year old pass catcher could have been worth the risk, as his combination of size and speed are a couple of attributes that when used properly can help him excel. Across his eight NFL seasons, Chosen has played in 111 games recording 375 catches for nearly 5,000 yards, while adding 29 touchdowns.
Having a vertical threat like Chosen that can take the top off of defenses, as well as take some attention away from Drake London and Kyle Pitts could have provided a major boost for the Falcons and their young quarterback.
