Report: Falcons Locked In On Kirk Cousins: 'Get It Done!'
Finding a new quarterback has always been the main goal of the Atlanta Falcons' offseason, and according to a new report, they may be closer to achieving that goal.
According to Zach Klein of WSB TV, the Falcons have zeroed in on Minnesota Vikings quarterback and pending free agent Kirk Cousins, and they're willing to go to great lengths to bring him to Atlanta.
"Everybody I’ve talked to says the logical thing is for them to (make) a veteran move," Klein said Thursday on 92.9 The Game's Dukes & Bell. "All eyes, all arrows, everything points towards Kirk Cousins – and Arthur Blank has basically told his front office that. Do what you’ve got to do, pay what you’ve got to pay, get it done.
“So, everybody I’ve talked to – agents, other coaches and scouts, guys around the league – that’s the feeling that they are saying. What they are hearing is that the Falcons will put all their attention on Kirk Cousins moving forward. Now, Terry (Fontenot) is not saying that, Raheem (Morris) is not saying that, but that’s what guys around the league are talking about.”
Cousins, 35, obviously isn't a long-term option given his age, but if the Falcons are looking for an immediate boost at the position, he may be the best quarterback on the market. He has consistently been among the league's better signal-callers, and before suffering a torn Achilles this year, he was playing some of the best football of his career.
Could Falcons Still Trade Up?
Other quarterback options, such as trading for Chicago Bears signal-caller Justin Fields or taking one in the draft, may be younger than Cousins, but they're also far less of a proven commodity. For a team like the Falcons who are seemingly only a quarterback away from competing, an immediate upgrade at said position would be ideal, even if they have to pay up to get it.
