Falcons Take 'Most Physically Gifted' Player in Latest Mock Draft

In NFL Network's mock draft, Christian Gonzalez becomes the latest member of the Atlanta Falcons.
In this story:

With three weeks to go until the NFL Draft, it's anyone's guess as to who the Atlanta Falcons will select with the No. 8 overall pick.

But that doesn't mean some educated guesses can't be made.

In NFL Network's latest mock draft, the Falcons selected Oregon cornerback Christian Gonzalez at No. 8 overall.

"Gonzalez is one of the most physically and athletically gifted prospects in the draft," NFL Network writes. "The Falcons should be excited to add him to a secondary in need."

Getting a sidekick for A.J. Terrell in the cornerback room is one of the top items on the Falcons' to-do list for the draft, and they would certainly check that off the agenda by selecting Gonzalez.

Terrell and Gonzalez could form one of the league's strongest cornerback duos and be part of an elite secondary with free agent signee Jessie Bates III and 2021 second-round pick Richie Grant.

There's a chance Gonzalez may not even be on the board when the Falcons are on the clock, as the Detroit Lions also have a case to take the Oregon cornerback with the No. 6 overall pick.

It's unlikely that the Falcons would trade up to take Gonzalez, as there should be other strong cornerback options on the board at No. 8, including Devon Witherspoon from Illinois and Joey Porter Jr. from Penn State.
