LOOK: Falcons Reveal Uniform vs. Panthers
The Atlanta Falcons will wear their all-black uniforms -- which feature black helmets, a black jersey and blank pants -- for their Week 1 matchup with the Carolina Panthers, the team announced on social media.
The Falcons refreshed their uniform set prior to the 2020 season, but have received nearly universal criticism in regards to the kit. In fact, Atlanta checked in dead last at No. 32 on our SI/FanNation preseason countdown of every uniform set in the NFL.
"Whether it's with a black or red helmet, we love the Falcons' throwback black uniforms. However, their primary uniform set, introduced prior to the 2020 season, are one of the worst the NFL has ever seen. The 'ATL' written across the chest looks cheap. The number font is atrocious," the countdown said.
If there's one positive for the Falcons uniform rotation, it's that coach Arthur Smith revealed in the offseason that the team won't be wearing the much-maligned red and black gradient uniforms in 2023, the most controversial part of the new set introduced in 2020. Still, there's plenty to critique about the primary black uniforms that quarterback Desmond Ridder and the Falcons plan to wear Sunday.
According to Gridiron Uniform Database, the Panthers will counter with their white tops and silver helmets for the debut of No. 1 overall pick Bryce Young. The team has not confirmed this, but it stands to reason that if the home team is wearing all black, the road team would counter with a white top, at the very least.
