QBs Anthony Richardson, Will Levis Visit Falcons; Insider Explains 'Homework'
The Atlanta Falcons' offseason has been littered with quarterback questions, centered around the idea of a potential pursuit of Baltimore Ravens star Lamar Jackson - but the discussion appeared to be over with.
Perhaps the three most important figures amongst the Falcons' decision makers - owner Arthur Blank, general manager Terry Fontenot and coach Arthur Smith - have endorsed 2022 third-round pick Desmond Ridder as the team's starting signal caller for this coming season.
And yet ... work on the top quarterbacks in the 2023 NFL Draft class continues.
ESPN reported that the Falcons are taking a "serious look" at this crop of passers - and top-30 visits with Florida's Anthony Richardson and Kentucky's Will Levis only add to that.
But what do the visits mean? Are they simply due dilligence or is there interest? NFL Network explained ...
"If you're the Atlanta Falcons, unless you're one million percent sure that you have a quarterback that's better than all of the other quarterbacks drafted, you owe it to yourself to do your homework," NFL Network said. "So, that is what's going on now (with Levis' visit) - they're going to take a look, and we'll see what ends up happening."
It's a "similar situation" for Richardson, per NFL Network.
The Falcons met with Levis on Thursday, while Richardson will be in Atlanta early next week. Both players had formal meetings with the Falcons at the NFL Combine last month.
Still, Ridder's hold of the starting job appears safe - after all, that's what free agents were told and what Atlanta's regime has said.
Further, with two of the Falcons' NFC South rivals - the Carolina Panthers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers - in need of quarterbacks, it's certainly possible they'll be seeing at least one of these passers twice a year moving forward.
Fontenot has spoken at length in the past about the information gathering process during the lead-up to the draft and how things can re-emerge down the line, and should Levis or Richardson land in the division, every detail counts.
But for now, it's merely "homework" - the question that now remains is whether the situation progresses any further from here.
