Falcons-Cardinals: Desmond Trufant officially ruled out in Week 6

The Atlanta Falcons are looking to bounce back in the secondary after giving up 426 passing yards to the Houston Texans last Sunday. But the Falcons will have to get that rebounding performance without starting cornerback Desmond Trufant.

The seven-year cornerback has been officially ruled out for Atlanta's Week 6 matchup with the Arizona Cardinals because of a toe injury. He was among the inactives for the Falcons, which came out 90 minutes before kickoff.

Atlanta will also be without cornerback Blidi Wreh-Wilson, who is also inactive. With Trufant and Wreh-Wilson on the sideline, rookies Kendall Sheffield and Jordan Miller could see significant playing time.

Trufant has been one of Atlanta's best defenders this season, so it's hard to understate the importance of losing him, especially with the Falcons defense still floundering against the pass.

For the Cardinals, wide receiver Christian Kirk is inactive for the second straight week because of an ankle injury. Kirk suffered his injury on an awkward tackle late in Arizona's Week 4 loss to the Seattle Seahawks.

Cardinals third-round pick and defensive end Zach Allen is also inactive. He didn't play last week either because of a neck injury.

However, Cardinals running back David Johnson is not among the inactives, so he will suit up Sunday afternoon. He was questionable heading into the game because of a back issue. Fellow running back Chase Edmunds still figures to get a lot of opportunities even though Johnson is active.

The Falcons and Cardinals will kick off at 4:05 pm ET. Both teams are looking for their second win of the season.
