Belichick Friends Reveal: 'Bill's A Good Fit' As Next Atlanta Falcons Coach Hire; Skeptical?
This much we know for sure when it comes to Bill Belichick: He can be infamously gruff, mumbly, uncooperative and quiet.
But man, just when it would be convenient for there to be positive public vibes about him - like, you know, when he's about to go looking for a job? - his cronies and sycophants sure do have a lot to say.
The Atlanta Falcons have been rumored to be in the Belichick sweepstakes, and we're not denying the validity of that; owner Arthur Blank certainly should be examining the idea in the wake of Arthur Smith's firing.
But there are now so many reports of the iconic (and apparently soon to be "former'') New England Patriots coach being "a good fit'' in so many places ("Jerry Jones secretly loves him!'' He could fix that whole show in Washington!" Bill enjoys the beaches in Los Angeles!'') that the idea of the feeling being mutual is the one worth examination.
Belichick to the Falcons? Yet another "insider'' is telling us what a great idea it is.
“I have been told they will have strong interest in Bill Belichick ... I've also been told people close to Belichick believe it would be a good fit for him,'' ESPN's Dan Graziano said of Atlanta.
The reasoning, purportedly from "people close to Belichick''?
"It's a strong roster that, yes, needs to figure out the quarterback position. It's in a relatively calm market where he could be all about the football. And he'd have a team owner who doesn't meddle in day-to-day affairs. Interesting idea, should Belichick and the Patriots split here in the next couple of days,” said Graziano.
Falcons to Pursue Belichick, Harbaugh for Coach Vacancy?
It might all be true. And it would be a heck of a story. But multiple "people close to Belichick'' are saying all of this? Ask yourself this: Are they spreading these "sourced secrets'' against the will of their friend Belichick?
Or are they doing it because their friend Belichick has a great deal to gain from the world believing he and the Falcons and the Chargers and the Commanders and the Cowboys are all such "good fits"?
