Falcons Trade for Justin Fields? Rumors on What Atlanta Would Give Chicago Bears for QB

It's an open secret now that there is a justifiable connection between Bears quarterback Justin Fields, who could be on the outs in Chicago, and his hometown Atlanta Falcons.

So ... what's the latest buzz on a possible trade? And what's the latest guessed-at price?

First to colleague Jordan Schultz, who is highlighting why he believes Fields and the Falcons works ... and what "folks around the NFL believe."

“I still think Atlanta makes the most sense," Schultz said. "I think most people around the league believe that the Falcons would be interested and that could be an ideal landing spot. ... I think when you consider the type of talent they have there skill-position-wise with Drake London, Kyle Pitts and Bijan Robinson, the fact that Justin Fields could be available would be very appetizing to them."

It doesn't hurt, we might add, that Fields is a Georgia guy, so as the organization looks to electrify a fan base that at times seems on the verge of apathy - being a long-standing have-not will do that to most any franchise - yes, there is both football sense and business sense to it all.

And "appetizing" is a great word for it.

Falcons 'Evaluating' Ridder, Heinicke; 'All Options' Open

The Falcons clearly are not sold on Desmond Ridder as their long-term quarterback solution. And the Bears, holding the top pick in this NFL Draft, could turn the page by selecting a QB ... thus avoiding giving Fields a big paycheck while getting a treasure chest of picks in trade.

Or, regarding the latter, will they?

Brad Spielberger of Pro Football Focus believes the price might be a second-round pick in 2024 and fifth-round pick in 2025. ESPN's Adam Schefter has said the Bears might get a second-round pick, adding, “I think they might get a 1.” And NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport said, “I think the Bears could get a premium pick, a second-rounder, maybe more."

So the cost is a second-round pick? That's it? Atlanta would retain its No. 8 overall selection and then, via the trade, throw a dart in search of a potential superstar at QB?
