Hey, Falcons, Hire Georgia's Kirby Smart! Ole Miss' Lane Kiffin Has A Suggestion
Lane Kiffin is no dummy. Want to get the Atlanta Falcons turned around? Maybe hire one of the best college coaches out there.
Oh, and want to get that great college coach out of the path of Kiffin's Ole Miss program in the SEC?
Yes, Kiffin jokingly has a fine recommendation for who should be the next head coach of the Falcons: Kirby Smart.
"Kirby Smart is my pick," Kiffin tweeted, reflecting on the Falcons' search for a replacement for the just-fired Arthur Smith.
Georgia has been built into a powerhouse, no doubt, this year falling just a bit short of winning a third straight national championship, Smart has transformed the Bulldogs into one of the elite programs in college football. ... and it is not far-fetched to think that if he ever wanted to do that in the NFL, he quite likely could
Kiffin probably cares about Atlanta being good. But he'd also much rather Georgia be not good ... thus him suggesting that Smart get the phone call from Falcons owner Arthur Blank to make the move to the pros.
Falcons Fire Smith: 5 Coaching Candidates Who Can Replace, Including Belichick
Smart, by the way, does have NFL coaching experience: he served as the Miami Dolphins safeties coach in 2006 under Nick Saban, now the long-time big boss at Alabama job ... where he ended up on the same staff with Kiffin, who was the offensive coordinator.
Georgia fans probably feel good about Smart not bothering making the move to the NFL. And the Falcons? After having gone 21-30 in three seasons under Smith, the fan base is excited about a change ... with Bill Belichick seemingly an infinitely more realistic possibility than Smart.
