Justin Fields Trade to Falcons? NFL Insider 'Doesn't See It'
The Atlanta Falcons are among the top teams in the Justin Fields sweepstakes as they look for a quarterback.
NFL Network insider Steve Wyche said on his podcast that he "doesn't see" Falcons general manager Terry Fontenot making the trade for Fields.
Wyche has a very strong relationship with Fontenot, so his words should be noteworthy. On his podcast with fellow NFL Network colleague James Palmer, they talked about the Falcons' current quarterback situation.
“I think mentioning the Falcons coming up, I think is a very, very poignant message. I think that is a team that maybe doesn’t really look to go the veteran route. I know some people have tied them to Justin Fields,” Palmer said. “We had Terry Fontenot on this show, Steve. Didn’t he just sound like, we value draft picks, we value building through the draft, and a young quarterback coming in, even if we have to move up for him, looks to be more something that the Falcons would do."
Fields, an Atlanta native, has quarterbacked the Chicago Bears for the past three seasons, but as his team holds the No. 1 pick in the draft with USC's Caleb Williams as the projected top pick, it could mark the end of the former Ohio State quarterback's run in the Windy City.
Mock Draft: Falcons Trade Up for LSU's Daniels
The Falcons, fresh off their third straight 7-10 season, need a quarterback solution fast ... and Fields would provide that. However, it isn't all that simple. The Falcons want to get this right, and by drafting a quarterback alongside new head coach Raheem Morris, you give Atlanta a true opportunity to develop something rather than take a potential shortcut with Fields, whom you would either have to pay in a year or two ... or go right back to square one if things didn't pan out.
