The Minnesota Vikings are digging deep into the depth chart at quarterback against the Atlanta Falcons.

After sixth-round rookie quarterback Jaren Hall was injured on the opening drive, Josh Dobbs came into the game. Hall completed 5 of 6 passes for 78 yards during his appearance for the Vikings in the first two drives.

The Vikings traded for Dobbs, the starter for the Arizona Cardinals' first eight games, ahead of the Oct. 31 trade deadline.

The move comes after the Cardinals announced that fifth-round rookie Clayton Tune would be the team's starting quarterback this weekend against the Cleveland Browns.

Dobbs was dealt just before the start of the season to the Cardinals from the Cleveland Browns and started in every game for Arizona this season. He's completed 62.8 percent of his passes for 1,569 yards, eight touchdowns and five interceptions through eight games.

Now, he has a chance to pick up where he left off and lead the 4-4 Vikings to an NFC playoff spot.

The trade confirms that the Vikings aren't exactly comfortable with handing the keys to the offense to Hall. Now, Minnesota has a veteran with starting experience to help organize the offense in the second half of the season.

While he has been needed earlier than expected, the Vikings will ride with Dobbs as they navigate the rest of the game.

The Falcons are tied 3-3 against the Vikings with just two minutes left in the first quarter. The rest of the game can be watched on FOX.
