'Not Who We Are!' Saints Coach Dennis Allen Apologizes For 'Unacceptable' Late TD vs. Falcons
Atlanta Falcons head coach Arthur Smith was visibly displeased after Sunday's 48-17 loss to the New Orleans Saints, and it appears his message was heard.
After what appeared to be a postgame meeting with Saints head coach Dennis Allen riddled with expletives, Smith's job security in Atlanta is even more in doubt following a late-season collapse. Allen, at least publicly, regrets a one-yard touchdown run by Jamaal Williams late in the fourth quarter that came with just three seconds remaining.
"I'm gonna start by apologizing to Arthur Smith and the Falcons," Allen said. "That's not who we are, not what we're about."
According to reports after the game, Allen stated that the Saints should have taken a knee, but players wanted to get Williams into the end zone, calling that decision "unacceptable."
'That's F****** Bull***!' Fire Arthur Smith? How Can Falcons Not?
The blowout win by New Orleans guarantees that the Falcons will miss the postseason for the sixth straight year, and that only intensifies speculation about Arthur Smith's job security. It also keep the Saints' playoff hopes alive, should the Green Bay Packers and Seattle Seahawks both lose in the afternoon window on Sunday.
