NFL Free Agency: Rams' Ahkello Witherspoon to Falcons?

The Atlanta Falcons could sign Los Angeles Rams cornerback Ahkello Witherspoon in free agency.

The Atlanta Falcons are beginning life with Raheem Morris under helm just weeks before the start of free agency.

Morris has connections that span far and wide across the league, including at his most recent stop with the Los Angeles Rams.

Among those connections is free agent cornerback Ahkello Witherspoon, who arguably just enjoyed the best season of his seven-year career with the Rams in 2023. Witherspoon recorded a career-high 52 tackles and three interceptions under Morris' defense in Atlanta.

With Morris now in charge of the Falcons and defensive coordinator Jimmy Lake specializing in defensive backs, Witherspoon signing with the Falcons makes a lot of sense. The Falcons will have to find ways to replace Jeff Okudah and Tre Flowers, who are both entering free agency themselves, and Witherspoon could very well be the answer.

By signing Witherspoon, the Falcons will be able to officially transition into the Morris era and he'll be able to put his touch on the defense with a player he's had some success with.

It remains to be seen whether Witherspoon will be able to replicate the kind of success he has in Los Angeles this past season, but having his old defensive coordinator behind him should provide him the best opportunity to be able to continue having a long, successful career.

NFL Free Agency begins on Wednesday, March 13.
