NFL Mock Trade: Cowboys Acquire Falcons RB Cordarrelle Patterson?

The Dallas Cowboys may need a running back and could call the Atlanta Falcons for Cordarrelle Patterson.
In this story:

The Atlanta Falcons have one of the best running back rooms in the NFL with Cordarrelle Patterson, Tyler Allgeier and rookie Bijan Robinson. But divvying out carries will be a struggle, and the trading block may be the most convenient relief.

Heavy.com proposes a trade between the Falcons and the Cowboys, offloading Atlanta's Patterson for a role player in Dallas defensive lineman Neville Gallimore.

"Gallimore has been a reliable role player for Dallas, but is entering the last year of his contract and could help the Falcons as a DT while they also save a bit of money by offloading Patterson’s contract," Heavy writes.

But here's the main rub ... Gallimore's production is serviceable at best.

While Patterson has notched 1,983 all-purpose yards and 19 touchdowns in two seasons with Atlanta, Gallimore's three years in the NFL have produced 74 tackles, nine tackles for loss and three sacks for Dallas.

The only possible explanation for such a move would be desperation on the D-line for the Dirty Birds.

"The Falcons brought in David Onyemata to lead the way in 2023, as the former New Orleans Saints star totaled five sacks from the interior last season," Heavy writes. "Their primary backup, Eddie Goldman, did not play a snap in the 2020 or 2022 seasons due to a COVID-19 opt-out and a premature retirement last offseason."

And that's spot on. The Falcons could certainly make room for more defensive line depth this offseason, and there'd be little argument to the contrary.

But the issue here is Gallimore's lack of experience and production. He's a cheap $2.743 million in 2023, but what could he add that remotely equates to Patterson's production throughout his time in Atlanta?

This trade proposal is quite the stretch.
