Steelers Signing Ryan Tannehill After Falcons Fire Arthur Smith: Rumor

The Pittsburgh Steelers could reunite Tennessee Titans quarterback Ryan Tannehill with former Atlanta Falcons coach Arthur Smith.

A former potential quarterback for the Atlanta Falcons could find a new home next season, one that comes with a reunion with a former coach of his.

NFL Network insiders are reporting that there is a potential reunion in the cards between former Falcons coach Arthur Smith and Tennessee Titans quarterback Ryan Tannehill.

“With new offensive coordinator Arthur Smith, the expectation is Pittsburgh will explore adding free agent Ryan Tannehill, who had his best years with the Titans while Smith was the OC there,” NFL.com writes.

Smith was fired by the Falcons last month and was ultimately hired by the Steelers to be their new offensive coordinator, replacing Matt Canada.

Tannehill was long rumored as a potential Falcons quarterback target, especially if Smith had remained the coach in Atlanta for another season. Smith was fired after three consecutive seasons with a 7-10 record.

In 2022, Smith reunited with Marcus Mariota, whom he also worked with in Tennessee. Mariota started 13 games for the Falcons, but was unable to revive his career back into a consistent starter.

It remains to be seen whether Tannehill would be expected to take over for second-year quarterback Kenny Pickett or if he would be his backup. Either way, it seems like the pair could team up once again in Pittsburgh.
