Sark to Alabama? No ‘Idiot,’ Saban Protege Gets Texas Longhorns New Contract

This week, in the wake of the University of Alabama retirement of the legendary Nick Saban, our plugged-in Texas media pal Chip Brown was involved in a conversation about Crimson Tide replacements.

"Sark would be an idiot to take the Alabama job,” the conversation went. “He has more resources at Texas and has a loaded QB room with Quinn Ewers coming back. And the first time he goes 9-3, Bama fans would say, 'Bad hire.'"

Sark and Saban

We won’t speculate or opine about ‘Bama vs. Texas resources. But we know this: former Atlanta Falcons and Alabama assistant Steve Sarkisian, despite his ties in this area …

Is no idiot.

Package Deal? Hiring Belichick Could Mean McDaniels, Too

And suddenly, in the same stroke that brings Washington’s Kalen DeBoer to Tuscaloosa, Sark is not only staying in Austin - he is doing so under the terms of a new four-year extension. A reward for steering Texas to college football’s final four, right alongside Alabama? Sure.

An enticing reminder about those “resources” in Austin that just gave his a raise? Sure.

A reminder that “Sark is no idiot”? Yes. That, too.
