Why Falcons Should Sign QB Russell Wilson in Free Agency

Russell Wilson is one of the top free agents. Could the Atlanta Falcons sign him?

Russell Wilson has begun his free agency tour, visiting with the New York Giants and the Pittsburgh Steelers, but is there potential for him to take the tour down south and join the Atlanta Falcons?

Bleacher Report suggests the Falcons are the best fit for Wilson.

"Atlanta isn't in position to land one of the top quarterbacks in this year's draft, but it does have the offensive talent to contend with a high-end quarterback," Bleacher Report writes. "Meanwhile, Wilson could benefit from a lower-stress situation within a run-happy offense featuring young, talented weapons like tight end Kyle Pitts, wide receiver Drake London and running back Bijan Robinson."

Wilson, 35, completed 66.4 percent of his passes for 3,070 yards, 26 touchdowns and eight interceptions across 15 games last season with the Denver Broncos, who cut him earlier this week after two unceremonious seasons with the team.

Wilson probably isn't the top option for the Falcons considering they have been linked to signing Kirk Cousins in free agency or trading for Justin Fields, but if they were to miss on both of those sweepstakes and they didn't like the quarterback options in the draft with the No. 8 pick, the veteran enters the circle as a potential option.

It's likely, however, that another team like the Giants or Steelers could swoop in and sign Wilson before he pops up on the Falcons' radar.

While the fit makes sense, the logistics make this an unlikely possibility for both Wilson and the Falcons.
