Giants Have 12th Most Valuable Draft Capital Ahead of 2024 Draft

Here's a look at what the Giants' six picks in the 2024 draft are worth.

NFL teams tend to view their draft picks like gold, mainly because they are valuable assets that, if spent wisely, can make or break a team's future for years.

So, what are the Giants' six picks—Nos. 6, 47, 70, 107, 166, and 183—worth? According to Tankathon, via a chart by The Harvard Sports Analysis Collective, New York has the 12th most valuable draft haul as of this point, with a total class point value of 809.9.

While draft order contributes to determining a team’s total draft class value, so does the number of picks, among other factors. Predictably, the teams ahead of the Giants in the draft order—Chicago, Washington, New England, Arizona, and the Chargers—all have classes with higher values, though not necessarily putting them in the same draft order. The Bears, who have four picks (1, 9, 75, and 122), come in third with 1,000 points despite holding the No. 1 overall pick in the draft.

However, there are other teams that draft after the Giants whose classes are of higher value. These include Green Bay (sixth, 972.4) with 11 picks; Atlanta (seventh, 951.5 with eight picks); Minnesota, Cincinnati, the Rams, and the Bills—all teams with more picks than the Giants.

The Giants originally had seven picks in the draft, but they traded away the higher of their two second-round picks to the Carolina Panthers in the Brian Burns deal. They also swapped fifth-round picks with the Panthers, lowering New York’s overall value.

However, at the end of the day, it’s not so much about the value as it is about what a team does with its picks. The Giants still need a No. 1 receiver, a quarterback, a cornerback, and defensive line depth, just to name a few of their remaining needs. If they don’t optimize the value with their selections and the draft picks turn out to be flops on an NFL playing field, nothing else will have mattered.
