New York Giants left tackle Andrew Thomas has quietly blossomed into one of the best left tackles in the league.

But don't expect Thomas, who is entering his fourth NFL season, to rest on his laurels or his reputation, not when, as he claims, he still has a lot of work to do to get better.

"I'm trying to get better every day regardless of the accolades," said Thomas, who was named an All-Pro last year. "Obviously, you want accolades and to be the best, but you don't get there by worrying about that. You get there by working every day to get better, and that's what I'm focused on.

Such as?

"Starting with my set in pass protection, just being more consistent with my inside foot, making sure I'm staying on the angle consistently," Thomas said in response to a question from Giants Country. "I would say my hands in pass protection as well, especially the inside hand, making sure I keep leverage on power moves and stuff like that."

Whatever Thomas has been doing to chip away at his perceived weaknesses has been working. After a disastrous rookie campaign in which he allowed 57 pressures, the second most among tackles in the 2020 season, Thomas settled in and drastically cut that number down to 18 pressures in 13 games played in his second season and 23 pressures over a full season last year.

"I think you're always looking for new ways to improve," Thomas said. "(Offensive line) Coach Bobby (Johnson) does a great job with us. He has a set rule of non-negotiable things he has, but he also allows us to be unique in every way. All of us are different players. If something works for one, he might let someone do it. If something works for another guy, he might let them do it. That's a blessing to have as an offensive lineman."

For Thomas, it's all about being consistent once he finds a way to address his weaknesses.

"The things that I already learned and understand, but also, like I said, just looking to learn new techniques," he said.

He'll continue to hone his craft as a Giants for at least the next two seasons as the Giants exercised the option year in his rookie deal, which has the former Georgia Bulldog stoked.

And the expectation is that the Giants will look to secure Thomas's services well beyond 2024, something they haven't started discussing with Thomas's representatives, which doesn't bother the tackle at this juncture.

"If it happens, it happens," Thomas said of getting a contract extension. "Right now, I'm just focusing on the first part of the off-season, and the rest will take care of itself.

"I'm a competitor. I want to be the best for my team. I want the team to do well. It's not just about me, but I want to be one of the better players in the league."
