With the New York Giants offense struggling beyond belief to score, head coach Brian Daboll reportedly took control of the team's offensive meetings this week, according to the New York Daily News.

The 1-5 Giants, whose season is on the brink of collapse, have gone more than three games--205 minutes to be exact--since last scoring a touchdown on offense when running back Matt Breida scored in Week 3 against the 49ers in a Giants loss.

Although, the Giants, kept things close in a primetime game against the Buffalo Bills last week, there was still that embarrassing clock management blunder at the end of the first half in which quarterback Tyrod Taylor, sitting on the Bills' 1-yard line, inexplicably audibled out of a pass play and called for a running play wide right to Saquon Barkley, who was stopped short of payday as time in the first half ran out.

A livid Daboll could be seen afterward ripping into Taylor, who later took responsibility for the blunder. Offensive coordinator Mike Kafka took his share of the blame this past week for the communication breakdown.

"At the end of the day, I’ve just got to do a better job of making sure that it’s crystal clear," Kafka said, citing the coach to quarterback communication. "We’ll go out there and execute it better the next time."

Still, beyond that blunder, the Giants' playcalling this season has been suspect.

Daboll and Kafka have denied that the head coach has become more involved in the playcalling since an embarrassing 40-0 shutout to the Dallas Cowboys in Week 1. The following week, however, Daboll was seen sporting a play card and appeared to be more actively communicating with the coaches upstairs in the booth.

Still, the head coach and offensive coordinator downplayed the visual evidence, saying that it was all a part of the process they've employed since last year.

But with the Giants' season hanging in the balance, it appears that desperate times call for desperate measures, and for Daboll, that includes going back to his roots as an offensive coordinator to breathe life into an offensive unit that, although injury-plagued, has looked lifeless for all but two quarters (those against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 2) this season.
