Giants Interview Dennard Wilson for Vacant Defensive Coordinator Role

The Giants tap into the Baltimore Ravens coaching tree once again for a potential defensive coordinator.

The New York Giants have launched their search for a new defensive coordinator just two days after the resignation of now-former defensive coordinator Wink Martindale was finalized.

New York met with Baltimore Ravens defensive secondary coach Dennard Wilson, the NFL Network reported.

Wilson is a former NFL defensive back who signed with the Washington Commanders in 2004 following a college career at Maryland.  A pre-season knee injury landed him on injured reserve, and then he later decided to leave the game as an active player and pursue a career first as a scout, having worked for the Chicago Bears for three seasons (2008-2011).

He then began his coaching career with a stint with the St. Louis Rams as a defensive quality control coach before being promoted to defensive backs coach for the 2015-2016 seasons.

Wilson then went to the Jets from 2017-2020, first as a defensive backs coach and then as the team's passing game coordinator. He spent the 2021-2022 seasons with the Eagles in similar roles before landing with the Baltimore Ravens as their defensive backs coach in 2023.

This past season, the Raven's pass defense allowed just 191.6 yards per game, sixth in the league, and 5.15 yards per pass play, the lowest mark in the league.
