Giants Hold Steady in Latest MMQB Power Ranking Poll
The New York Giants are coming off their bye week with a 4-8 record and will be taking on an underrated 6-6 Green Bay Packers team at home on Monday Night Football in Week 14. And while the Giants rose one spot in the NFC East standings, they remained in the same spot (No. 25) in the latest MMQB power ranking poll.
Noted MMQB's Conor Orr of this week's ranking:
Riding a post-bye high that includes a reported 1,200% spike in Tommy DeVito jerseys, the Giants are on a path to destroy the Packers on Monday Night Football this week. O.K., maybe not, but who is going to say with any degree of confidence that the Giants won’t keep it close?
Though the Giants' current record leaves much to be desired, New York has proven to be a scrappy team over the last two weeks. Following a statement-making performance from DeVito in Week 11 in the Giants 31-19 win over the Commanders, the Giants followed that up with a stout showing in their 10-7 victory over the Patriots.
While Orr was joking about the Giants being on a path to destroy the Packers, who topped the Chiefs 27-19 on Sunday Night Football, there's certainly no reason to think that New York can't keep it close.
Some might scoff at this statement because the Giants offense is 31st in points per game (13.3). But defensively, the Giants have become a force to contend with since Week 6, holding five of their last seven opponents to under 20 points scored while coming away with eight turnovers in their last two games.
The Giants know a lot is resting on this game. Alongside the fact that the Giants will be embarking on a two-game road trip next week, starting with a visit to the Saints, a win against the Packers would give them a 5-8 record with four games remaining on the schedule, two of those four against an elite Eagles team.
However, the result of this Monday Night Football showdown will rest on which Giants team will show up. Not only has the offense struggled mightily to put points on the board (currently ranked 31st in red zone success rate at 40 percent), but the Giants defense just so happens to be taking on a hot Packers offense that is riding the momentum of a three-game winning streak that consists of back-to-back victories over juggernaut teams in the Lions and the Chiefs where they scored over 25 points against each.
In fact, Orr has the Packers ranked 10th on his list and is so high on the team that he even believes they will make the playoffs, which currently they are in the position to do. The Giants, who are 15 spots back in front of the Commanders, Jets, Titans, Bears, Cardinals, Patriots, and Panthers, are a -6.5 underdog against the Packers and are still very much looking from the outside in at any playoff hopes this season.
