The New York Giants aren't worried about the Eagles, the Cowboys, or playoffs. Instead, their mantra, borrowed from the Al Davis Raiders, is simple: Just win, baby.

The Giants, who have lost four games in a row in a season that is slowly slipping away, are worried about the Commanders, who come to town on Sunday, and that's where they are focused.

"Right now, it's just this Sunday," defensive lineman Dexter Lawrence II said when asked if the team could potentially go on a run toward returning to the playoffs for a second straight year if they beat the Washington Commanders this weekend.

"Sunday will help us get closer to that opportunity, and that’s how we’ve got to approach it."

Lawrence, who has made no secret that the losing is draining, believes that if the Giants can get a much-needed win against a Commanders team they've historically had success against, that will be a step in the right direction.

"I think it'll build more confidence and morale," he said. "Just keep winning, keep believing, things like that. So, I think that's what it’d do for us."

To that end, he's not worried about the numbers or lack thereof, such as the fact that the Giants defense is at or near the bottom of the league in sacks (32nd), run defense (31st), red zone (23rd), and points difference (32nd).

"The numbers will come when they come," Lawrence said. "I'm never stressing over numbers. I affect the game in a lot of ways. I’m going to keep doing that. If the perfect play comes, that’s a sack. Everything has to click. So, I'm never stressing over that."

Instead, he's stressing over getting better and doing his part to help the defense overcome its early season slump.

"We have not hit our peak, but like I said, we do all the right things throughout the week. We just have to keep going and bring it to Sunday," Lawrence said.

Defensive coordinator Wink Martindale opined that the defensive unit is starting to jell, citing improvements in execution and communication.

"I think a lot of guys on defense just have the same mindset and the want to," he said. "Our mindset is just to kick somebody’s butt, for real. Just go out there and play faster, harder, longer than the other team plays, and the results will handle themselves, and just keep believing."

Lawrence agreed.
