Giants Rule Out Daniel Jones, Four Others Ahead of Bills Game

This week's injury situation is as bad as it gets.

As anticipated, the New York Giants inactive report will largely consist of players who appeared on the team's injury report this week.

Head coach Brian Daboll confirmed that quarterback Daniel Jones (neck), left tackle Andrew Thomas (hamstring), center John Michael Schmitz (shoulder), tackle Matt Peart (shoulder), and outside Azeez Ojulari (ankle).

Those five were among 17 players on the team's injury report Thursday. None of them have been able to practice this week.

Punter Jamie Gillan, added to Thursday's report with an illness, should be good to go. Another one who could miss Sunday's game is running back Gary Brightwell (ankle), who had been downgraded after being limited on Wednesday.

The Giants had ten players listed as limited, among them cornerback Deonte Banks (ankle), running back Saquon Barkley (ankle), right guard Marcus McKethan (knee), right tackle Evan Neal (ankle) and tight end Darren Waller (groin).

Daboll didn't provide an injury status for running back Saquo Barkley (ankle) or right tackle Evan Neal (ankle). Barkley was listed as questionable last week, so it's assumed he will receive the same designation this week. Neal's status is not yet known.

Daboll also said that the team will likely have to move players to injured reserve to ensure they can accommodate all the roster moves they'd need to make to play the game. The Giants are expected to elevate at least two offensive linemen from the practice squad; they would also need to add quarterback Tommy DeVito and perhaps linebacker Oshane Ximines to the mix.

The Giants listed the following players as questionable for Sunday.

  • RB Saquon Barkley - Ankle
  • RB Gary Brightwell - Ankle
  • DL D.J. Davidson - Knee
  • OL Shane Lemieux - Groin
  • LB Micah McFadden - Ankle
  • OL Evan Neal - Ankle
  • TE Darren Waller - Groin

The hope is that one or both of Brightwell and Barkley can go, otherwise the Gints will be super thin at running back.

Lemieux will probably give it a g, though whether he plays is another story. Lemieux would be the backup center to Ben Bredeson.

Davidson and Neal were both not spotted during the part of practice open to the media, so their chances of playing aren't very promising.

Waller told reporters on Thursday that he anticipated being able to go. He's been limited the last two days.
