Did Seattle Seahawks general manager John Schneider tip the New York Giants' hand when it comes to their starting quarterback position?

That might very well have been the case during the football executive's appearance Thursday on the "Wyman and Bob" show for Seattle Sports, in which Schneider was asked about losing backup quarterback Drew Lock to the Giants.

"Really happy for Drew," Schneider said. "They basically sold him the opportunity to compete, to be a starter. And he felt like it was the right opportunity.

"He looked at (Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback) Baker Mayfield's opportunity last year and felt that this could be something similar. ... And so he made a career decision."

Giants general manager Joe Schoen has maintained that the "expectation" is for Daniel Jones, the incumbent, to be the starter once he's given the green light to return from a torn ACL.

However, expectations can and do change, and with there being growing concern around the league about Jones's injury history and how that might drive decisions made by the Giants, Schoen, who said the plan was to sign a backup quarterback, is protecting himself and the franchise either way.

The Giants are also believed to be leaving their options open regarding selecting a quarterback in next month's draft, including reportedly exploring a trade-up to acquire one of the top-tier guys.
