New York Giants Injury Report: Andrew Thomas Out vs. Seattle

Plus a not-so-encouraging Saquon Barkley update.

New York Giants left tackle Andrew Thomas (hamstring) has been ruled out of Monday night's game against the Seattle Seahawks, head coach Brian Daboll confirmed Saturday before practice.

Thomas has been ailing with a hamstring strain suffered in the Week 1 loss to the Dallas Cowboys when he injured himself trying to chase down a blocked field goal that went for a touchdown. He had hoped to return to the lineup this week, given the 11-day break between their Week 3 and Week 4 games.

However, Thomas, who tried to give it a go on Thursday, the team's first full practice of the week, "didn't feel right," according to Daboll, and ended up being listed as a limited participant.

Thomas was held out of Friday's practice and kept inside to work with the training staff. And in the locker room after practice on Thursday, it was clear that he was in a notable amount of discomfort.

Daboll said that, as of now, there were no plans to put Thomas on injured reserve. Doing so would mean the veteran left tackle would have to miss at least four games.

Daboll also said it was too soon to determine if Thomas might be ready for the Giants' Week 5 against the Miami Dolphins. In the meantime, Joshua Ezeudu will continue filling in for Thomas at left tackle.

"No one is Andrew Thomas," Daboll said. "We want (offensive lineman) Josh (Ezeudu) to be Josh, and we’ve got to do a good job of coaching Josh and the rest of the guys. But, when you’re missing a good player, that’s the NFL. You’ve got to be ready to go with the next guy up."

 Saquon Barkley Update

The news regarding running back Saquon Barkley (ankle) is a bit more encouraging. Barkley was able to practice on a limited basis all week, and Daboll said he would be a game-time decision.

"I think he’s gotten progressively better, and then it’s just a talk with Saquon, where he’s at, and it’s a talk with the training staff," Daboll said. "I think everybody’s got to be on the same page. (You) never want to put a guy out there that’s not ready to go, but he has gotten better. I think there’s a chance, but we’ll see where it’s at."

Daboll said Barkley has tested out his ankle, which the runner himself classified as a  high ankle sprain, on the hard cuts and has held up well

"What we’ve asked him to do, he’s done a good job with," Daboll said. "I want to give him the benefit of the doubt all the way up to as far as we can go."

After practice, Barkley was listed as DOUBTFUL on the team's final injury report.

And the Rest

Outside linebacker Azeez Ojualri (hamstring) is on track to return after missing the last two games.

"Yeah, he's had a good week," Daboll said. "He had good practice yesterday. Feels good and practiced well. So, unless something happens today, counting on him being there."

Ojulari's return would be big for a Giants pass rush that has struggled out of the gate and has two sacks to its name through three games.

"He’s a good player for us," Daboll said. "We’ve got to get him into those situations where we can utilize his skillset, which he does a good job of rushing the passer, but we’ve got to play good team defense, good team football to get to some of those situations."

Tight end Daniel Bellinger (neck) is good to go for Monday night, as are left guard Ben Bredeson (concussion) and defensive tackle D.J. Davidson (elbow).
