No. Seriously, how does that make sense? You yourself said Bakrley is "obviously a better running back." Do you honestly think Saquon would blink if the Giants signed another guy? Nope.

Moreover, with limited cap money at that point, the Giants might as well rescind the tag and set Barkley free, which is probably what he'd want. So no. There's a fine line between being shrewd and ruthless, and Joe Schoen doesn't strike me as the latter.

The Giants want it to work with Saquon, and presumably, Saquon wants it to work with the Giants. The two sides need to give in a little to meet in the middle. Also, Schoen has said they're willing to have Barkley play on the tag if no deal is reached. They have all the leverage. Cook will land elsewhere, but I don't see it being with the Giants.

I've seen two practices so far, both non-contact and padless, and both run at half speed (and at times literally walkthrough speed done with no helmets) with no true 11-on-11 to form any concrete assessments. Let's circle back on this topic once the pads go on in training camp; then, I can give you a better answer.

That is a very good question. I think that was asked of Daboll (might have been by me; I can't remember, though), and he spoke in general terms, which I expected. If I had to pick something, it would be better to balance coaching smart while not coaching scared.

I'm referring to the Adoree Jackson incident. I understand you don't want to coach scared, but when you're putting your CB1 on the line and have a drop-off in depth behind him, you have to weigh the risks vs. the reward a little more.

 More from Giants Country

From Ken M: What is happening with Barkley's contract? Are we going to lose him?

Ken, unless the Giants rescind the franchise tag on Saquon Barkley, he isn't going anywhere this year. He will be on the field come opening day if healthy, so hopefully, that puts your mind at ease.

As for his contract, there hasn't been any chatter to indicate any progress being made between the two sides, but I would find it hard to believe there has been zero communication between the two sides since after the draft.

As I have said, I think this will come down to the eleventh hour. As of right now, I'm not convinced that a deal will get done in time, but we'll see what happens in the coming weeks with time running out.

I hope I'm wrong and they get a multiyear deal done, but both sides need to meet somewhere in the middle, and last I heard, that wasn't close to happening. Now could things have changed since? Sure. But we'll see in the next few weeks where things stand.

From Andre (via IG): Should the Giants make a move on Patrick Queen since his fifth-year option wasn't picked up?

Interesting question, Andre. Brandon Olsen wrote an article about this topic a few weeks ago, and Queen was one of the players he mentioned. That said, the Giants right now only have their initial seven draft picks in next year's draft. They're not projected to get any comp picks.

So who or what will they give up for what is, in essence, a one-year rental, and is it worth it, or is it better to see if Queen hits free agency next year? I think we both know the answer.

Too soon to say right now, Terri. Again, I've seen two practices, and both have been slowed down for teaching purposes. Let's circle back on this after I get a couple of weeks' worth of training camp practices with the pads on into my memory, and I can give you a better assessment at that point.

Appreciate the love. I think we're going to do an NFC East roundtable over on Locked On--we have the last few years. That's down the line though, so if we do have such a show, I think it will be in mid-to-late August. Will let you know as soon as I have something concrete.
