New York Giants on the Rise in MMQB Power Ranking Poll

New York takes a four-point jump after a dramatic come-from-behind win against Arizona.

Slow and steady wins the race, and the New York Giants are slowly rising on the weekly MMQB power ranking polls.

The Giants, who opened the 2023 season ranked 27th after their embarrassing 40-0 loss to the Dallas Cowboys in Week 1, took a four-place jump in this week's poll, rising to No. 23 this week after overcoming a 20-0 deficit against the Arizona Cardinals to win the game in dramatic fashion, 31-28.

The Giants, whose offense had been scoreless for six quarters of play, came alive in the second half of that game, with quarterback Daniel Jones finally looking like he had settled into a rhythm to deliver a performance that reinforced why the Giants' brass continues to believe in their $160 million man.

Not surprisingly, Jones was at the root of Orr's ranking this week:

Daniel Jones is strange in that he’s a quarterback I don’t mind starting the game against but a quarterback I’m scared to face in the second half. Jones was cool and collected during a rabid comeback against the Cardinals. For someone who will likely amount to a very, very high-end bridge quarterback, he was throwing open a middling receiver depth chart, supplanted by Saquon Barkley in the passing game. This is a coaching staff that expertly doesn’t panic. Imagine staring down a blowout loss to the Cardinals after a 40-0 loss to the Cowboys in the season opener. That was a massive team victory.

The Giants next take on the San Francisco 49ers, a game in which they're a 10.5-point underdog. While not many people are predicting an upset, if Jones and the Giants can at least keep it competitive, there's no reason to think they won't continue their slow rise up the MMQB weekly NFL power ranking poll.
